What is video encoding?

Video encoding, also known as video compression or video transcoding, is the process of converting raw video files into a format that can be easily stored, transmitted, and played back. This process compresses the video data to reduce the file size while maintaining acceptable quality so that it can be stored and transmitted over the Internet more efficiently.

Was ist Video Encoding
Welche Rolle spielt die Bitrate beim Encoding

What is the bitrate?

One of the main factors affecting quality and file size is the bitrate. It determines how many bits per second of video are transmitted. A higher bitrate results in better quality, but also larger files. Conversely, a low bitrate can lead to visible compression artifacts, such as blurring or blocking.

Resolution & frame rate?

The resolution of a video also plays a role in its quality. Higher resolutions provide sharper images, but also require a higher bitrate and more storage space.

The frame rate is the refresh rate and indicates how many individual images are shown per second. Higher frame rates produce smoother movements, but also require more bandwidth and storage space.
